Can you hear what once was? (un)Romantic presents reworked versions of songs by Richard Strauss, Sergei Rachmaninov, Richard Wagner, Gustav Mahler and others, deconstructed and rearranged by vocalist Live Maria Roggen and keyboardists Ingfrid Breie Nyhus and Morten Qvenild.
These Lieder, full of longing, yearning and heartbreak, are further expanded by the inclusion of poems by Emily Dickinson (in Norwegian translations) reinterpreted by current Norwegian poet Tone Hødnebø. The texts are fed into a sound world of improvised interaction between Roggen/Nyhus and Qvenild's electronics. In the process, the distance between old and new collapses.
